We would like to update you on the development of the construction of a massive concrete parking lot in the Sonian Forest, in the center of the Espinette Centrale, Rhode Saint Genese.
The construction works have already destroyed almost 5000 m2 of a very precious Natura 2000 habitat and impacted severely the fragile forest edges which were separating the forest from the busy and polluting chausse de Waterloo.
Given the scale of the intrusion into this ecosystem, a legal action to halt the environmental destruction was introduced on January 22, 2021, jointly by several residents of St Genesius Rode and by the "Friends of the Sonian Forest", association of historical and symbolic defense of the Sonian Forest.
This action is supported by the "Crowdfunding Forêt de Soignes" and it is specially designed for this purpose. We would like to thank everyone who has already contributed to this crowdfunding and thus made it possible to initiate the procedure. However, it is necessary to continue the crowdfunding efforts and we hope that all signatories to the Open letter will give their financial support to this important cause (more than 900 participants have signed this letter so far).
When fighting for environmental protection, in this particular case the Sonian Forest, every contribution is important, regardless of its amount, and every donor reinforces the collective action that is carried out.
However, insofar as the costs of the current procedure will be substantial, we propose an average amount of 50 to be transferred to the banking account:

stating "crowdfunding Forêt de Soignes".
We would like to underline that the funds that are solely intended to support the protection of the Sonian Forest.
The preservation of the environment, and of the Sonian Forest in particular, concerns us all and we invite you to disseminate this information by e-mail and / or via social networks, to all your contacts in order to inform them and raise more awareness for this case, the scope of which is in our common interest. You can also send them the link to our website https://www.comite-quartier-espinette.com/open-letter where additional information is available.
On this webpage you will also find the "Letter to the residents" of December 2020, publication of the ACQU (Association de Comités de Quartier Ucclois) that has featured prominently the construction of the concrete parking and its ecological consequences in the Forêt de Soignes.
We thank you very much for your interest and support. We will keep you regularly informed of the progress of the procedure on the website and via e-mail.
It is never too late to act.
